Maisee Xiong: The Kids   Happy Easter!

I made waffles for me and The Kids using the new Calphalon No Peek™ Waffle Maker I bought. My first batch did not turn out well at all. The first mistake I made was believing that the waffle maker was truly non-stick and the second mistake was that I used too much batter. Not sure if I can be blamed though. The User Manual did mention that I didn't have to grease the plates, not even for the first use. And then the manual also said to use approximately 2 cups of batter, which I did. Then the manual also said that the lights will indicate cooking progress but it didn't either. After cleaning up the mess from the first batch, I made certain to grease the plates and was more conservative with the batter. The second batch was much better. I did, however, take it back and got a new one. I'll try the new one next Saturday.

* * *

I also took The Kids out to the park since several of the places they wanted to go to were closed due to Easter. I didn't even realize how many places were closed because of Easter. They wanted to go to the mall and that was closed. They wanted Pizza Hut pizza from Target and that was closed. Pizza Hut wasn't going to open until 4PM. The Kids had to settle for chicken nuggets from McDonald's which they really didn't mind at all. I think it bothered me more than it did them.

This is Miss The Daughter practicing writing her alphabets. Slowly, but surely, looking better. I'm glad she enjoys writing them too except when the marker goes bad on her. Then she gets upset that the marker is no longer working. It looks like she is going to have a Type A personality when she gets older. She also read Dot and Mit to me. And then she asked to do some math. Of course, by the time she was done with her work she demanded that I give her 3 stars: 1 for reading, 1 for writing, and 1 for math. She is so excited that she only needs 7 more stars to get a dollar. What a trip...she's a trip! :)

The day started with Picture Day for The Daughter's dance class. She was very excited that she got to wear lipstick! Compared to the rest of the girls in her class I think she was the most "natural" looking. I have nothing against parents who choose to go all out with makeup on their 4 year old but it is something I'm not comfortable doing just yet. I just don't think it's fair for her and her skin. Most importantly, I want her to grow up knowing that beautiful doesn't mean plastered with makeup. Anyway, she totally struck this pose on her own. No coaching from me! :)

Maisee Xiong: The Daughter's Picture Day

Next up was the Legends Cup Tournament for The Son. His team played against 3 other U7/U8 teams within the club. The first game was against girls. The second was against boys. And then the third game was against a team of girls that gave the boys a run for their money. Of the three teams that they played against, the last group of girls was the most nerve-wracking. They ended up beating the girls though and then played against them again in the Championship game. The girls scored the first goal with The Son being the goalie. I was not happy with him! Then they tied at 2-2. The boys eventually won 6-3. Much promises for the upcoming season.

Below is a picture of the boys fighting for the bag of candy they won by winning the Championship game. That's The Son on top in the #9 jersey. Coach Ben and The Husband looking on.

And what a great way to end the afternoon! Coach Ben put together a Easter Egg hunt after the tournament. Everyone truly went home a winner!

Maisee Xiong: The Son Xiong   Maisee Xiong: The Daughter Xiong

Today was a beautiful day. A whopping 66 degrees. No need for sweaters or light jackets. The Son wanted to stay inside and play on the xbox but I overruled his decision. He ended up having a blast outside. I was even able to convince him to get on his bike (without training wheels). We'll definitely have to get reacquainted with the bike again before summer rolls around. I really don't want to haul both kids in the bike trailer this year! Maybe if the weather holds up on Sunday, I can convince The Husband to go for a bike ride. Fishing might be in order too!

Here is a little team building exercise you all can enjoy. This wasn't the whole group. Just a few members of the team. And yes, that's me in the tiki mask.

I think, overall, I work with some pretty awesome people. We've done some pretty crazy things; had some totally inappropriate discussions. We've all shared stories about our most embarrassing moments: tear-jerking, belly-aching, laugh-out-loud funny stories. I've even shared my one and only colonoscopy story. And yes, one day, I will share that story with you all.

This group is so awesome, it makes it very difficult to want to leave and get a different job elsewhere. By the way, I should get started on a Linked in account.

Weight: 113.2, -0.8 since March 1, -3.4 since January 1. This must be my "forever size." Although, I will have to admit that today was not a healthy food choice day. I allowed myself to get persuaded by others to go to Taco John's. I ended up eating the entire Super Burrito, nearly all my potato oles with cheese sauce, and chugged a Pepsi. To top it off, I also had a Sweet Creme Churro!!! Dinner wasn't any better. Because the stock market was closed today due to Good Friday, The Husband didn't have to go to work. So we took The Kids to Family Fun Center. There, I had a basket of crinkle fries and more pop! Horrible. I did manage to get my lard-ass on the treadmill tonight even though I was already pretty exhausted. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

March 28, 2013
I'm thinking about purchasing a Calphalon No Peek™ Waffle Maker and making waffles Saturday morning. I'm sure The Daughter will like the Nutella on her waffles. The Son, on the other hand, will most likely say he is allergic to chocolate. He really isn't. For some strange reason he just doesn't care for chocolate. I'm sure he'll be fine with the syrup and whipped cream. Strawberries and bananas will work too. I'm excited.

Weight: 113.6, -0.4 since March 1, -3.0 since January 1. I went to bed last night feeling pretty good about my weight. But then this morning the scale indicated 0 change. The scale and I will be at war with each other again soon!

March 27, 2013
Maisee Xiong: Petite Palmiers from Costco   My latest addiction: Petite Palmiers from Costco. I brought this batch back home from Denver, CO! There is a Costco here in Omaha, but I don't have a membership there. And it's a good thing that I don't because I can see how bad a habit these cookies can become! Hopefully, Sam's Club don't sell them either. I'll definitely have to cancel my membership if that was the case!

Things to consider: I was just out in Denver. I'll be back there at the end of April. My brother will be in Minnesota within 2 weeks and I'd like to go see him. Of course, I have a different agenda too but why not kill two birds with one stone, right? But then I also want to go to Fresno, CA for the Hmong Music Festival at the end of May as well. That would be quite a bit of traveling. Not sure if it's a good idea to do that much traveling. The trip back to Denver is not an option. It is a must. So I need to pick between MN and CA. There is no one to see in MN except for my brother and his girlfriend. Then again, I don't want to take up too much of their time together either. If I go to CA, chances are I will see my mom and I don't quite want that either. But then my friends are there and I'd get to see them. What to do, what to do?

About my mom. I haven't seen her since Sept 2010. And I haven't really spoken to her since then either. I don't think anyone can blame me if they knew what she had said to me back then. Crazy is just an excuse that has been used too often. No more benefit of the doubt. No more excuses. She drew the last straw. I am not ready to face her yet. And maybe it's not even so much that I don't want to face her. It's more that I don't want her to see me nor do I want her to see my kids. She doesn't deserve it. I want her to acknowledge that what she said was wrong and uncalled for. The reality is, she has too much pride and much too proud to ever acknowledge that she was wrong. But, until then, I don't care that she hasn't seen me or the kids.

Weight: 113.6, -0.4 since March 1, -3.0 since January 1. Now headed in the right direction. Hopefully it stays that way.

March 26, 2013
My first day back into the office and the first thing I'm told by my manager: we're going back to see Legal in Denver at the end of April. Really? Really, really?!! I was just there! It's not like I mind the traveling. In fact, I've enjoyed it so far. But then there is The Husband and The Kids that I have to think about. The Son, especially, will not be thrilled. He cried instantly when I told him I was going to Denver (my most recent visit). What I would really like to do is go to Vegas for the EMC World event. And it would be nice to go to Woking as well. I think that would be fun.

Weight: 114.2, +0.2 since March 1, -2.4 since January 1. Not headed in the right direction! :(

March 25, 2013
I went through the Just One Night series in a day. It was easy reading and it kept me hooked, obviously. I will definitely get my hands on Part 3 as soon as it is released. Same would go to the third book for The Crossfire Novel series. I downloaded a sample of the next book I hope to read. It's another one from Jodi Picoult called The Storyteller. I'm thinking that maybe my next book will be one written by Joel Osteen. I am not a religious person but I have tuned into his sermons before. Good delivery, good message, all without really putting an emphasis on God. I find him to be more of a motivational speaker rather than a preacher. I like him.

Overall, today was another gloomy day for me. Still no words. I took the afternoon off from work because I was too exhausted. Now it's 11:00PM and I'm still awake, reading, updating my website, and researching my next book to read. I'm a lost cause! :)

* * *

Weight: 113.8, -0.2 since March 1, -2.8 since January 1. I'm surprised that I weighed in at 113.8 today given that I've been away from home for 5 days and spoiled myself with pasta and pop! I haven't gotten back to routine yet, but I should. I will resume my March challenge tomorrow and sign up for GymPact. This will motivate me to get on the treadmill!

March 24, 2013
I'm finally back in Omaha. It feels good to be back. The kids knocked me down when I walked in. I'm sure they were more excited to see what I brought home for them more than they were about seeing me. Ha ha. The Daughter didn't like the dress I'd bought her but I'm sure that will change as soon as I hide the rest of her dresses! He he. She did like the Tinker Bell book that I bought her. I read the first story to her. She wanted me to read the whole book to her but told her we were only going to read 1 story per day. The Son liked the Sonic figurines I bought him. That's what he's into lately. The Husband also got him started on Street Fighter. Crazy kid was showing me his Street Fighter moves earlier.

I got on the scale before changing into my pajamas and the scale read 115.2. I just finished a cookie and a pop. Now that I'm back home, I'll have to get serious about the diet again. It's quite challenging to stick to a diet when I'm away from home. And because I was away from home, I kind of spoiled myself and ate whatever I wanted to. Also, I'll need to get back on my exercise regimen. While I was out in Denver, one of my co-workers told me about GymPact. I will definitely sign up. I'm sure this will be a motivation for me to work out: Why waste $5 when I can easily get on a treadmill for 30 minutes? Exactly!

I've also thought about signing up for Invest In Yourself 5K event. It would be my first 5K. And no, I will not be running but rather walking the 5K. I'll have to see if anyone wants to tag along with me. I wouldn't mind doing this by myself either. I do have until April 30 to sign up for the event.

March 23, 2013
It was a lazy snow day in Thornton, CO. Played school with the kids. Izzy was the teacher and got her chance to boss us around for a little bit. Her instructions were to draw a picture and then write a sentence about it. So I drew a picture of a tree and a squirrel playing outside. Hopefully, the next couple of days brighten up for me.   Maisee Xiong: With Izzy, in Art class, playing teacher and student

Maisee Xiong: Zoe   Meet Zoe. This is one of Izzy's dogs. While I was sitting on the floor, hanging out with Izzy and her brother when Zoe came over and sat in front of me. Then she stared at me. All I could see were her crooked teeth. They reminded me of my teeth before I had braces. Ha ha. Okay, so mine weren't as bad, but still I thought it was funny.

March 22, 2013
Day 3 of dressing up: black dress shirt, red pencil skirt and black pumps. My feet are exhausted. I can't wait until the end of the day and change into something more comfortable. Dressing up is way too much work! It doesn't help that this area is full of suits! On a normal day, I know I won't fit in with this crowd.

And the makeup! I've had fun with the makeup but damn, my face can use a break. The good thing is that the Bare Escentuals make-up I use doesn't cause me to break-out.

* * *

I went with Nicole to watch her CrossFit training workout. It was really intense. Just watching her made me ache all over. She did 150 wall balls, where she had to squat, lift up a 6 lb ball and throw it against the wall, making sure it is above the 9 ft mark. Then catch the ball and repeat the process again. I'm sure I would have died after the 10th wall ball. Oh yes, and she had to do this all under 10 minutes. *SMH*

The Son called and told me he made a sock puppet at school. He had The Husband take and send the following picture to me. I totally miss The Kids.

March 21, 2013
I haven't been able to check my weight since Tuesday morning and so I'm a bit nervous to know where I am. Tuesday wasn't so bad. Yesterday was questionable: I had two sushi rolls for lunch and still ate a small salad for dinner even though I wasn't even hungry.

Today, I had lunch at Hacienda Colorado. I had two enchiladas that were too small and really greasy. Not saying it didn't taste good, just saying there was more grease on them than necessary, IMO. Tonight, a few of us will be going to Maggiano's. I know I should eat a salad to fulfill my Salad-A-Day challenge, but I'm thinking I really want to have something other than a salad. I think I totally deserve to skip a salad being that I'm on a work trip away from home. Ok, I'm sold. No salad for dinner tonight! Pasta. All. The. Way! I know I'm going to regret it. Ha ha.

* * *

Dinner was great. I had the Linguine di Mare: Lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams and spicy lobster tomato broth. The portion size was extremely huge. It would appear that I have enough left over for lunch and dinner tomorrow! I also had their creme brulee and it was extremely yummy!

* * *

Today, I decided on a black/gray silk blouse, black pencil skirt, and black pumps. I think I pulled it off and got the response I was looking for. :) The meeting with the vendor, consultant and Legal didn't go too bad, I suppose. A lot of the usual back and forth. Everyone just kind of stuck to their role and said their thing. I do think there were several good things that came out of the meeting. Of course that just means more work for me. *SIGH*

* * *

Enough about my day. I still have to get my things packed.

March 20, 2013
I had lunch at Rice Bistro & Sushi restaurant today. I absolutely loved the Dragon Roll and the Dragon Skin Roll. I will definitely need to eat here once per visit to the Denver office.

Maisee Xiong: Dragon Roll @ Rice Bistro & Sushi

Dinner was at Earls Kitchen & Bar. My boss and I were greeted at the door by girls dressed in all black: top, mini-skirt, and tights. He was thrilled until we ended up with what seemed to be the only waiter in the entire restaurant.

We did a little bit of shopping at Outlets at Castle Rock. He was absolutely against going to the outlet mall. Not because he didn't want to shop, but because he felt the quality wasn't as good at the outlets compared to the non-outlet stores. That was, until he found a leather jacket for $150 (regular price was $500). I found a few things for myself at Banana Republic. I got The Daughter a new Ralph Lauren swimming suit. I think she's going to love it! And I got The Son a pair of denim. He's pants are starting to become high-waters. LOL.

March 19, 2013
My flight to Denver was delayed so I didn't depart Omaha until 8PM. It was midnight by the time I got to the hotel and settled down. I went down to the bar for a Midori Sour but they didn't have that so I went with a Mountain Dew instead. It has been weeks since I've drank pop and I made sure I didn't gulp down the whole 20oz. I only had about 8oz and should probably dump out the rest of it so that the temptation is not there. Tomorrow is going to be an early start. I'll need to wake up early enough to shower, do my hair, iron my dress, and put on make-up. I'm going to be hanging out on the top floor where the execs and attorneys are located so I better look presentable! Good night.

Ended up munching on a small bag of chips and half of a cookie. *SIGH*

The Kids went to church with Grandma today. I took advantage of having no one to look after and took a nap.

We all went to the Chinese buffet to celebrate Nicole and Khamphy's birthday. Khamphy said she was 56 (she really isn't). Nicole was embarrassed when the waitress came around with a cake and sang her Happy Birthday. She can blame Grandma for that one. Luckily for her, we were in a semi-enclosed area of the restaurant. Also in attendance was Shawn Gnandt. I could tell The Husband was having a fun time with Shawn - joking, laughing, horsing around...being himself. It's been awhile since I've seen that side of The Husband.

I finally started on Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother after taking a 2-day break from reading. The book, so far, is interesting and I could have easily gone beyond the normal 30 minutes on the treadmill. But of course, The Migraine is back, knocking at my door. And since I haven't been doing such a great job at keeping myself hydrated, I decided I shouldn't do more than my normal routine. The last thing I need is to be beyond dehydrated as she will see that as her invitation to settle in. Life with The Migraine; it is never-ending.

As for my upcoming trip, I am not looking forward to it. Well, not really. It might be a good thing to be away from all the tension, but at the same time, the timing is just fucking off. Of course, this wasn't the case when the trip was planned. I was really hoping to be in a better position with The Situation before I leave on this trip, but that doesn't seem possible. It is out of my control and it is what it is. I'll just have to go along with the flow, which is going at a rather slow and painful pace - one that I am not comfortable with as I am a instant gratification type of gal. I mean, skip the bs, hammer it out, and move the fuck on.

March 16, 2013
My day started at midnight when I woke up to fetch a couple of pills to feed my unwelcome guest, The Migraine. This is day two; she has totally overstayed her welcome. Prior to this visit, I hadn't seen her for a while. I wish we can keep it that way. UGH.

I couldn't sleep after that so I stayed up to work on The Website a bit. I'm surprised that it's come this far. It's not much, but it's better than all of my prior attempts. I guess we'll see how well I keep this up. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be just another phase. I can say, though, that with the latest routine the family is on, I do get a couple of hours to myself before it's my turn to go to bed. And that's a good thing. I can't be super mom without time to myself.

Music kept me company while I was awake. When Bruno Mars came on belting out When I Was Your Man, I couldn't help but think how close the lyrics hit home. I'm not going into details...

I have a 5 day trip to Denver, CO coming up: 3 work, 2 play. For work, I'm taking 3 outfits and 1 pair of shoes (thank God for Classic Black Pumps). For play, several outfits with 1 pair of shoes. And, there is still plenty of room for new purchases!

The Husband and I took the kids trout fishing today. We've also taught them how to say "fish on" whenever they land a fish. So whenever they do, it's "Fish on! Fish on!" and they are NOT quiet about it either. Ha ha.

As soon as The Daughter reeled in her first fish, she said, "Dad! Now we can have mos lwj (deer) soup!" I said, "The Daughter, not mos lwj soup. Fish soup." That girl loves soup!

Apparently Banana Republic Factory Store is having a 40% off sale, plus a 10% off coupon. Sale ends March 19. Unfortunately, there is no such store here in Omaha, NE. I can't really justify making the trip to Kansas City, KS and by the time I'm in Denver, CO, the sale will be over with. Guess I'll just have to miss out on the sale. Sad. It's one of my favorite stores - LOVE their petite section!

* * *

Speaking of Denver, CO, I haven't even booked my car rental yet. I just dropped off a few things to the dry cleaners today so maybe I'll start packing once I pick them up tomorrow. Definitely looking forward to hanging out with The Attorneys (I'm rubbing my temples in between typing and sighing heavily).

  The kids are on Spring Break. This year, spring break is Thur, Fri, Mon, Tues. Not sure who came up with that bright idea.

After failing to meet the salad portion of the March 2013 Challenge the last two days, I did manage to eat a salad for lunch today. I'll have to make up for Tuesday and Wednesday over the weekend. I also didn't dress up for work this week. I was home with the kids on Monday because it ended up being a snow day. Then I was up until 2:30AM on Tuesday morning working on a Priority 2 ticket so there was no way I was going to doll myself up. Wednesday was just way too cold.

GAP is having their Friends & Family event going on now through March 17. Cardholders get 40%. Otherwise, it is 30% off. I didn't find anything for myself but the kids got away with a few things. I also saw some pretty eye catching pieces while window shopping at New York & Company and Express. Maybe I'll go back this weekend sans kids.

Woke up at 5:30AM to get the kids ready and out the door for The Son's soccer game, which was scheduled at 7:00AM. They played again at 5:30PM. Lost both games. They did put up a good fight considering they were playing against boys who were older in the age bracket. Hopefully, they will have a better match-up for tomorrow's game.

Swimming lessons have ended. No more shuttling kids to swim lessons for another 8 weeks! :)
